St. Vincent de Paul

St. Vincent de Paul (1581 - 1660) was a French priest known for his charity towards the poor. When he was a young man, he was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in Africa. He escaped but not before converting his master to believe in Jesus! As a priest, he attended to poor peasants and galley slaves. He founded the Congregation of the Mission to evangelize to country folk. He also founded the Daughters of Charity who are dedicated to helping the poor. His feast day is on 27 September.
