St. Sebastian (256 – 283) was a Roman soldier who believed in Jesus during a time when it was a crime to do so. In the army, he helped Christian prisoners and converted many others. When St. Sebastian's faith was discovered he was tied to a tree to be shot at with arrows. He survived and denounced the Emperor for his cruelty towards Christians. He was eventually put to death for this. St. Sebastian is the patron saint of athletes and archers. His feast day is on 20 January.
