St. Lucy

St. Lucy (283 – 304) lived during a time when the Roman Emperor wanted to destroy the Christian faith. She had great love for Jesus and promised her life to Him. Rejecting a marriage to a non-believer, she was tortured and killed for her faith. The torturers even removed her eyes but God restored them. St. Lucy is the patron saint of the blind and those with eye ailments. Her name literally means ‘light’. Her feast day is on December 13.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

In 1531, Mother Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego, a poor farmer in Guadalupe, Mexico. She requested for a chapel to be built where she stood. He could not convince his bishop so Mother Mary gave him some roses as a sign. When he showed them to the bishop, a beautiful image of Mother Mary appeared on his cape! After that, great numbers of people believed in Jesus and the miraculously image can still be seen today in Mexico. Her feast day is on December 12.

St. Nicholas

St. Nicholas of Myra (270 - 343) was a Bishop in Asia Minor. He came from a wealthy family but he was kind and generous. Once, he secretly gave three bags of gold to help a poor man’s daughters get married. When he became Bishop, he zealously defended the faith from incorrect teachings. There are many legends of him protecting children and sailors. He is popularly known as ‘Santa Claus’ today. He is the patron of children and his feast day is on December 6.
