St. Francis Xavier & the Crab

St. Francis Xavier was a Jesuit Priest and Missionary from Spain. He travelled to India to preach the Gospel in the 1500s. Legend tells of one of his journeys when he lost his cross in the ocean. Miraculously, a crab emerged and returned it to him. He blessed the crab and to this day, such crabs have cross patterns on their shells.

The Church celebrates St. Francis Xavier's feast day on December 3.
