Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Our Lady of Perpetual Help
The title 'Our Lady of Perpetual Help' was given to Mother Mary based an icon from the 15th century. The famous icon depicts the Child Jesus clinging on to Mother Mary, as He appears frightened by the tools of His Crucifixion - a lance and sponge carried by Archangel Michael, and a cross and nails carried by Archangel Gabriel. Mother Mary has a star on her forehead which signifies the Star of the Sea.
Some people believe that the original icon was painted by St. Luke the Evangelist. The feast day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is on June 27.

St. Josemaría Escrivá

Ordinary Life as a Path to Sanctity
Feast Day of St. Josemaría Escrivá
St. Josemaría Escrivá (1902 - 1975) was a Spanish Priest who founded the Opus Dei, which means ‘Work of God’.  Opus Dei is an organization of laypeople and priests dedicated to the teaching that everyone is called to holiness and that ordinary life is a path to sanctity. When St. Josemaría was a teenager, he saw footprints in the snow left by a monk walking barefoot. This inspired him to become a priest. He wrote many books and gave talks, teaching about prayer, mortification and holiness in ordinary life and work. His feast day is on June 26.

Birth of St. John the Baptist

Happy Birthday St. John the Baptist!
'When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed.' - Luke 1:59-63

St. Thomas More

Who is the 'King' of your life?
Pleasure, money, power or God?
St. Thomas More (1478 – 1535)
St. Thomas More (1478 – 1535) was a lawyer, statesman and friend of King Henry VIII of England. He was once the Lord Chancellor, one of the most important positions in the court. He was a holy and faithful person, and a good husband and father. When King Henry went against the Catholic Church, St. Thomas and many others, including the Bishop St. John Fisher, refused to join the King. As a result, they were executed. St. Thomas More’s feast day is on 22 June.

Prayer of St. Ephrem

Happy Feast Day of St. Ephrem the Syrian!

Prayer of St. Ephrem

O Lord and Master of my life, grant me not a spirit of sloth, meddling, love of power, and idle talk.

But give to me, your servant, a spirit of sober-mindedness, humility, patience, and love.

Yes, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own faults and not to judge my brother, since you are blessed to the ages of ages.

Amen.

St. Boniface

Did St. Boniface plant the first Christmas Tree???
St. Boniface (7th Century AD)
St. Boniface (7th Century AD) is known as the Apostle of the Germans because he helped many of them believe in Jesus. He was an English Benedictine monk sent as a missionary to Germany. He became the Bishop of Mainz and preached the Gospel bravely and tirelessly. Once, he used an ax to cut down a tree worshipped by the locals. Seeing that their ‘gods’ did not kill St. Boniface, they decided that his God was the true God. Some legends say that a new tree grew from the stump of the fallen tree and became the first Christmas tree! St. Boniface is the patron saint of Germany. His feast day is on 5 June.
