The Story of St. Bernardino, Preacher & Logo Designer

Today is the feast day of St. Bernardino of Siena. St. Bernardino (1380 – 1444) was an Italian Franciscan Priest. As a young man, he ran a hospital in Siena, caring for plague victims. As a priest, he went all over Italy preaching about sin and repentance. He had a weak and coarse voice but his simple messages reached deep to people’s hearts. He devised the IHS symbol, using the first three letters of Jesus’ name in Greek, to encourage devotion. He is known as the Apostle of Italy. His feast day is on 20 May.
