Our Lady of Sorrows

'As in the case of her Son Jesus, one might say that she too was led to perfection through this suffering, so as to make her capable of receiving the new spiritual mission that her Son entrusts to her immediately before “giving up his spirit” : that of becoming the mother of Christ in his members.'
Pope Benedict XVI
(Our Lady of Sorrows Memorial, September 15, 2008)

The Triumph of the Cross

'Through his self-emptying on Golgotha, in the disgrace of the Cross and the crucifixion (at least in the human way of understanding these events) Christ receives the highest exaltation. In God’s eyes, the Cross is the greatest triumph. The way of human judgement is very different from God’s. God’s judgement far surpasses ours. What seems to us to be failure is, in God’s eyes, the victory of sacrificial love...'
Pope St. John Paul II
(Triumph of the Cross Feast, September 14 1988)

What's so great about St. Gregory?

Happy feast day, St. Gregory the Great! Pope Gregory I (540 – 604) was the head of the Catholic Church from 590 to 604. Born in Rome, he entered a monastery but was later called to serve the Pope. He became Pope eventually and made great improvements to liturgy and church music, such as the ‘Gregorian Chant’. He sent missionaries all over Europe and brought different peoples together under the Church. He cared greatly for the poor and his writings shaped the Church of today. For all these, he is given the title ‘the Great’. His feast day is on 3 September.

This artwork and story is featured in 'Happy Saints Vol 13’ eBook
