St. Thomas the Apostle

St. Thomas the Apostle
St. Thomas is well known as ‘Doubting Thomas’ because he did not believe the other apostles when they told him Jesus had risen from the dead. It was only after the Resurrected Christ appeared to him that he believed and proclaimed, ‘My Lord and my God!’. St. Thomas travelled all the way to India to preach about Jesus and started a Christian community that flourished since then. He was killed with a spear by local tribes who felt threatened by the faith. St. Thomas’s feast day is on July 3.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Our Lady of Perpetual Help
The title 'Our Lady of Perpetual Help' was given to Mother Mary based an icon from the 15th century. The famous icon depicts the Child Jesus clinging on to Mother Mary, as He appears frightened by the tools of His Crucifixion - a lance and sponge carried by Archangel Michael, and a cross and nails carried by Archangel Gabriel. Mother Mary has a star on her forehead which signifies the Star of the Sea.
Some people believe that the original icon was painted by St. Luke the Evangelist. The feast day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is on June 27.
